The art of scanning requires cultivation and time to be perfected. Medical staff must have continued clinical training with a professional skilled in sonography until they are deemed competent. Competency will require at least 50 supervised or reviewed scans and a letter of competency from the medical director and ultrasound expert.SWI can also provide onsite clinical training for students who need to meet the clinical criteria. Additional didactic information will be given as a review. The PCC will need to schedule the pregnant models for the scans. In order to provide adequate training and scan time, no more than 5 students can register for the clinical training. Additional ultrasound systems and sonographers will be available as needed for the supervised clinical training. SWI will also assist the PCC in locating additional sonographers in your area to provide additional clinical supervision. A certificate of competency will be provided by SWI or the supervised sonographer when the medical student has completed the 50 clinical scans and has proven the competency skills for providing the limited ultrasound.
The cost to provide this service for 3-Days is $2500.00 plus expenses of travel, lodging and meals. If additional days are requested the fee would be $700.00 per day. For medical students who have not completed any didactic training in ultrasound, SWI can also provide the didactic/clinical training on-site for the same fee.
